Importance of Adoption Courses

Adoption is a process that quite literally gives people a second chance at life. It allows babies and children who have been abandoned or whose parents have passed away a unique opportunity to find a loving family in which they can grow up into fulfilled and happy people.

However, recent statistics from the National Council of Adoption state show there’s been a nearly 20% drop in the number of adoptions between 2019 and 2022. One of the possible reasons is that being an adoptive parent is more difficult because it entails certain specifics not present in biological parenting.

This is why it’s important for candidate adoptive parents to undergo special adoption courses. Such courses are designed to arm the soon-to-be adoptive parent with the skills and knowledge to tackle the delicate situation of parenting the child of another person and establishing a strong emotional connection with that child which transcends biology.

Topics Covered in Adoption Parenting Classes

Adoption is a complex process that requires a lot of preparation on the candidate parent’s side. This is why our courses are designed to guide the participants through the entire process - from filling in your adoption application and adopting the child, to navigating the many unique challenges associated with the child’s upbringing.

The classes walk the participants through the legal aspects of adoption and provide practical advice to make the process more streamlined. They also help navigate the child’s emotional trauma left from his/her separation from the biological parents which is often a major obstacle in raising an adopted child.

The particular topics that are addressed in the adoption parenting class you choose to enroll in depend on the length of that class. Longer ones cover more topics and in more detail, while shorter classes stick to the most important aspects of the adoption and post-adoption process.

Choosing the Right Adoption Course

Numerous statistics indicate that contemporary adults lead increasingly active and dynamic lives, with significantly reduced free time, which is the reason our courses are designed to be highly flexible and easily adaptable to even the most demanding schedules.

Our classes are entirely online and come in varying durations - if you have little to no free time, we have quick 4-hour/week courses, and for those who can spend more time, we have classes with up to 52 hours/week.

A critical consideration when selecting a course is the directive of the court, child protective services, social workers, legal representatives, or other authoritative figures concerning the course's duration. Should you be mandated to complete a 26-hour course, we strongly recommend adhering to the respective length requirement and enrolling in a class that meets or exceeds it. Failure to meet those standards may lead to course rejection.
